AICE Media CCR: Podcast

Hey guys welcome to my podcast, Beyond the Surface: Dive Deep with Nat.

This exclusive podcast is part of my creative critical reflection on the film me and my team created “Cold Case.”

So a question that had been pending. “How does your product use or challenge conventions?”

Well let me answer that. My group decided that the film would be a thriller but while researching what makes a movie a thriller it features seemed to clash a bit, which raised the question to me, what makes a movie a thriller?

The difference lay in the conventions of both genres. Conventions refer to what makes a film easily recognizable and define it into its specific genre, props, characters, plot and lines can be indicators of that.

In our film, I created the blood that was used as one of the props for the film, and although blood is feature usually seen in horror films, it’s intended purpose was more for the credits and for one of the scenes mostly to allow the viewer to understand what was happening in the few time we had. The blood I’d used more for gore in horror movies rather than for thrillers which is what we intended.

In our sequence, the plot had a big deal to do with the mood we intended to create. It was filmed at an abandoned location which we designed to create suspense from the start to keep viewers intrigued in what was to follow. One last factor which really, in my opinion, influenced what type of genre our project was deemed, was the music. The music in the film was strange and a bit sinister which to me, really made the attention and mood of the opening sequence develop further. It’s wasn’t the best but we tried our absolute hardest to build the genre up through these ways.

You guys also questioned “How does it represent social groups and issues?”

Since I am so greatful to you, my audience, why not respond to your inquiries? If you guys have any further questions please let me know and who knows, maybe you guys might even get a shout out on the next episode?

Back to that question, the sequence we created was about teens going to explore an abandoned location, a skate rink. There they decide to split up and explore different location but meet a grim fate, one by one. While it does sound as an enticing movie to watch, this isn’t something completely made up, more than 460,000 children go missing in the US. This frightening fact is a reality faced, and something that should be talked about more in homes , schools and as general topics. Teens love exploring, it’s the age where one is most rebellious. Sadly these activities do not always end well, so this movie was partly fun but also to bring awareness to issues such as this.

Thank you guys for tuning in, goodbye!
