Movie Research: Black Swan
What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
- The movie Black Swan uses a variety of conventions that we plan on utilizing for the final task. For example, their use of close-ups to demonstrate their the distress the protagonist portrays throughout the film. Their use of the setting contributes to this as well, as the dark and mysterious features further the suspenseful emotions of the audience. Much like the team plans to do for the final task, as we use the setting and try to incorporate the acting of the team. This would in turn have the audience connect more to the story.
What conventions of the movie did the have that you liked?
- Much of the sound used for the film, was very much to my liking as the suspenseful and high-pitched audio simply added to the feelings and emotions of the film. This in turn, made the viewer feel at edge, keeping us intrigued to what would happen next. Movies like this never lose my attention and are well made, because of the convention uses of the movie, it is well planned, and the message is understood better. The acting and costumes all add the eery feelings and captivate the viewer to feel they are there and the thriller aspect and just as many uses and transitions of the movie does to portray the action.
What convention of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you are thinking of not filming for your final task?
- Some of the acting however, went overboard. Black Swan can be thought as more psychological than what we plan to do for our movie. For our movie, we plan to make it more teen-movie scary instead. We are trying to go for something more for teens. Like scream, however the uses of lights in Black Swan is a much better of an example. However there are also aspects of the setting and dialoge, which we plan to ignore, like the colors and pushing for certain colors like black and white. Instead we plan to utilize a camera to give the effect of a documentary unlike the camera quality in Black Swan.
