How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
For the music video, the song utilized was "Take Me Out" by Franz Fernidand. The genre of the song related to Alternative/ Indie. However in comparison to the genre of the song, my team utilized the song in a completely unrelated form. The lyrics created the upbeat and joyful sort of theme which were something used at out teams advantage to make to make the video different, more unique and more enjoyable. However, in comparison to the mood created by them song, the message was another. We depicted the social issue of being an outcast and left out by those you most care about. When being left out and pushed away, one feels always self-aware and anxiety takes over them, causing a battle within them that they hide on the outside. Recording upon that issue most teens face, in a public setting, we really felt and saw what that effect would feel and create on people who go through this. Mis en Scene was used greatly, it helped in the flow of actions between scenes and the overall video, also helping us, recreate how we interpreted the concept from Franz Fernidand's video. Similarly to his music video, he used bright images and unique pictures to contradict his lyrics and so did we, simply, in our interpretation, with high school actors and a ad bit lower quality.
How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
The music video itself is not what was made special, it was the message that was trying to be spread. From the lyrics, they were upbeat, with the intention to make the listener enjoy and maybe smile as they hear the beat, like to hear in a party. However when more attention was placed on the music and lyrics more specifically, the mood changed. The music itself, talks about being abandoned, about the low self-love of the one being left alone, and not being important enough. That is where the special part of my teams video comes in, the beat of the song reminded my team of the type of music friends would have as ambient, like when heading on to a roadtrip. So, taking into consideration the opposing messaged seen when watching Franz Fernidand's music video, my team decided to lean on the lyrics. My team decided to make the visuals similar to the song's lyrics and maybe this way, keep the audience attentive to the product. If the purpose of the video was to reach bigger audience's, I believe that this sort of video would be released on MTV. With the purpose to, more specifically, reach young teen audiences that would enjoy thinking instead of simply hearing a song. Not many teens wish to do that anymore, as they simply, only care about the rhythm of the song but some times, reflecting on the music can he refreshing and an eye-opening experience. Which is why finding the adequate target audience would also be difficult.
How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
From the beginning, the process of coming up for our music video, to come up with the theme and actions to be taken were difficult, as a team, it was hard to come to even ground. I questioned people in other classes whether my ideas made more or less sense than my teammates, however, that just showed the team, how much dedication and care that the music video was going to be taken. That showed me, sometimes you win some, other times you lose some, but maybe change is not always bad. The process of giving roles and working together on aspects some were more dominant than others, showed us more about our teammates, things we wouldn't have known otherwise. My teammates showed me tips and tricks I hadn't known about editing and camera movement, as I showed them about exploring and what we should do as a team to get us more on track and complete the assignments with more care. Difficulties did arise nearing the due dates, due to my schedule, my help was difficient in areas where I should've helped more. Instead of being bothered, my teammates simply had my back and took over until I could make my way there. Socially and Technologically, I learned plenty and I am sure my teammates can agree that they too, learned form this project together. Even if each step didn't come out as planned, my team did the best they could to help maintain our pillar and project. This project in all, showed our flaws and resilinece as a team, which fortified our trust and actions of one another making us a stronger team every step of the way up.
How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
4. Originally, my team had wanted to record on a camera, unfortunately, none in my team had one or the means to buy one. The next best option was to utilize the technology we had at hand, which was our phones. In the end, using a cellphone resulted more helpful since none of us really had any experience with cameras, and the cellphones were simply easier to handle. My teammate Ayannah, had a newer phone generation and her phone offered a similar, if not greater focus and abilities that affordable camera could've offered us. The cellphone allowed us to use more features like point 5, which offered us with a more amplified view of the scenes, while helping with some scenes like the Point of View shots. After having completed all the shots came the process of picking which program would be used to edit the music video together. In the end, the program my teammate chose to use to edit the videos, was the I-Movie program. He based his decision on the fact of his previous experience with it. having already used the program before, gave us the advantage of him knowing more about the abilities and tricks he had learned to help the flow and what the program could offer him with. Not many free programs offer a variety of options, so using this program allowed with more editing options, facilitating the process a tad more.
