Short film Research: DeKlab Elementary/ Drama

  1. Common Sound in drama
  • Diegetic: The sound of the office staff of the school during daily activities, including discourse and children laughing. The gun shot and the screams of both the teachers and children as they realize what is going on. 
  • Dialogue: conversation between the office staff and the shooter making demands to the staff she must pass to the police, including The shooter advising police to evacuate people in the area. The shower speaking to himself, regretting his actions realizing he should be on medication in the hospital.The Discussion of the grown man, threatening the staff that they will die. The young man admitting he is suicidal and wanting to give up, but the office staff speaks him out of such thoughts and encourages him to be caught by the police. The intruder, wanting to apologize to the students, regretting to have scared the children.
  • Ambient sound: Police sirens head in the back, waiting for the shooter outside.
b. Common Mis-En-Scene (CLAMPS) in drama
  • Clothing: Casual-business attire for the staff, uniform for the students, shaggy dark clothing worn by the shooter.
  • Lighting
  • Acting: The fear in the staff as they realize how real and dangerous this situation is. The shooter not caring for his life. The shooter not aiming for anyone inside the building, but instead shooting outwards to police. The young man with the gun realizing his mistake and looking remorseful.
  • Makeup: The shooter bleeding after being shot at by police on the neck.
  • Props: Phones, bookbags, books, a fire arm. The handful of bullets the shooter intends to utilize for his attack. A disposable flip phone, 
  • Setting: An educational center, more specifically an elementary school.
c. Common Editing in drama
  • Shot-Reverse Shot of interaction between the office staff and the intruder.
  • Eye-line shot of the intruder regretting his actions
d. Common CAMS (Camera Works) In Drama
  • Medium shots: between the office staff and the intruder throughout their interactions.
  • Two Shot of both speaking to each other.
  • Close up to the fear in both of the workers.

f. What elements of the genre that you like?
  • The elements that caught my attention about this film were the remorse the young boy had. Throughout the film he regrets his decision, desisting and harming no one. That type of acting touched my heart as even the people we fear, have their own fears. The makeup and clothing could possibly be incorporated into the film to humanize and spread awareness of thinking before we act.
g. What elements of the genre do not appeal to you?
  • Unfortunately, this specific setting would not be incorporated, although it is a very real and unfortunate event that happen too many times, this isn't the tragedies set to be highlighted by this project.

  Storyboard January 28, 2024 This is the opening seen with are group of kids are standing in front of the abandoned ice rink. They all agree to go in the building as a group beside one girl who stays be hide.  After walking into the building they walk around a room. One of the girls of runoff into a another room and call the others to them. Walking into the new room they are welcome to a large pile of still sharp ice stakes. Along with them messing around with one another. They finally walk into the main room the ice arena. They hear a scream and question the sound. Suddenly members of the group starts to vanish. Then something from the darkness appears in the view of the last remaining member and chases her. Out of breath from running away the girl screams for her friends than looks around in this new room. Seeing the dead body of her friend. Her dropping the hand held camera, hearing screaming of the girl in the background. THEN TITLE CARD.

Let the filming begin!

So, moving into the characters that would be in the film. The group was chosen based on availability, most of them, well all, being my friends. A recurring helper, my best friend Johanna, my friend Jacobo, and someone I met recently, Sophia. There were more people but they didn't have time or something came up. From the team, only Benjamin and I showed up.  The team decided to record in late January so it was a tad cold but Everyone wanted to fit into the timeline so most of the team members were co-opperative dress attire-wise. I made sure everyone brought the necessary items given that the place was dark, so flashlights were required. It took a while for the recording team to all show up, but once attendance was met, I set up most things to get ready to shoot.  Hey guys welcome back quick update, a lot of things changed. Well a lot was forced to, due to our extenuating circumstances and the production of this is music video. Let me explain, to make things simple, the video won’t be going on script with the storyboard. I put my party and even though I had just gotten out of competition, and hadn’t eaten, I put my part in and brought my best friend in order to complete the ideal goal. However, a lot of problems arose, some being mine and others not so much.  One of the problems that I had was in fact, competition, I was not aware of how late the final round would last and my group meme era had to film the lonely part by them selves, Ayannah and Benjamin. I ended up finally being free at around 3:30 pm, and had to run and pick up my best friend in order to even make it to see the team.
